Bourne Swimming Club - Club Rules

Updated January 2025

Bourne Swimming Club was established in 1972 with the support of Caterham Rotary Club. Our aim has always been to teach adults to swim and enhance their technique—a mission we proudly continue to this day. As a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers, we are committed to keeping fees as affordable as possible. However, the club relies on the support of our adult swimmers and parents to take on key roles and contribute to the smooth running of the club.

Please take a moment to review and agree to our Terms and Conditions, as well as our Behaviour Policy, outlined below:

Fees and Membership

  • Payment Deadlines: Fees must be paid in full by the due date specified upon registration. For existing members, this is typically the 15th of each month. We cannot guarantee your place if fees are not paid on time.

  • Annual Fee Structure: Bourne Swimming club fees include a non refundable registration fee plus monthly membership fees. Our membership fees are calculated and spread evenly across 12 months to make payments manageable for members. Fees remain due even during holiday periods.

  • Notice to Leave: A 30-day notice period is required if you wish to cease your membership. This allows us to manage our membership costs effectively.

  • Missed Sessions: No concessions or deductions will be made for missed lessons - allowances will be made for periods of extended illness but we are not able to pause membership for other reasons.

  • Pool Cancellations: In the event of pool operator cancellations, fees are non-refundable. We will always strive to offer alternative session dates, but these are subject to pool availability.

  • Fee Adjustments: The club reserves the right to increase fees when necessary to account for rising costs, such as pool hire, insurance, and instructor fees, which are beyond our control.

Attendance and Behaviour

  • Punctuality: Swimmers should arrive promptly for the start of their session. Entry to the pool is at the instructor’s discretion.

  • Safety Rules: Swimmers may only enter the pool with the instructor’s permission.

  • Lost Property: The club is not responsible for any lost clothing or personal belongings.

  • Swimwear and Safety: Appropriate swimwear must be worn for all lessons, and we recommend removing all jewellery. Long hair (shoulder length or longer) must be secured under a swim cap to prevent safety hazards.

  • Spectator Guidelines: Spectators must remove outdoor footwear to maintain hygiene around the pool area.

Parental Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Parents or carers must stay poolside during lessons for all primary school aged children or where the instructor deems it necessary for older children due to their specific needs. We do not require on-site presence for secondary school-aged children, but parents are responsible for ensuring they are reachable by phone in case of emergencies and for the children’s safe arrival and collection from the poolside.

  • Pre- and Post-Lesson Supervision: Parents or carers are responsible for ensuring that the children’s behaviour is not disruptive to other site users in all areas of the pool and sports centre, both indoors and outdoors.

  • During Lessons: Instructors are responsible for children during lessons. Parents are kindly asked not to interact with their children during sessions unless specifically requested, as this can be distracting for the instructors and other swimmers.

Photography and Video Recording

  • During Classes: Photography and video recording are strictly prohibited during swimming lessons. This policy is in place to ensure the privacy and comfort of all members and their families.

  • In Changing Areas: Under no circumstances is photography or video recording allowed in the changing areas. This is a critical measure to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

  • Club Photography Policy: If you do not wish for yourself or your child to be photographed for official club purposes (e.g., marketing or social media), please indicate this in your Love Admin account.

Behaviour Policy

  • Disruptive Behaviour: We do not tolerate disruptive or inappropriate behaviour. Any swimmer found bullying, misbehaving, or causing disruption may be asked to leave the club without a refund.

  • Anti-Bullying Commitment: We are committed to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. Bullying will not be tolerated, and any swimmer displaying such behaviour will be removed from the club.

  • Club Representation: We ask all members to represent the club positively and adhere to these terms to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Additional Information

  • Medical Conditions: Please declare any relevant medical conditions during registration and update us promptly if anything changes via your JoinIn account and by emailing bourneswimmingclub@gmail.com.

  • Photography: As part of the registration process we ask you to provide or deny consent for yourself or your child to be photographed for our marketing or social media purposes. Please note that you are always able to amend your preferences via your JoinIn account
